Improving Strategic Decision Making
01 September 2011
Executives make decisions. Yes, they do a few other things too, often on their BlackBerry handsets, but unlike the managers who work for them and often draft the proposals, the executives are the ones who actually get to make the really big “bet the business” type decisions – and are held accountable for the outcomes

The Pursuit of Happiness
29 August 2011
It's clear that engaged employees benefit a business. The behaviours associated with engagement are almost the definition of high performance in contemporary organisations. You don't have to look far to find sources extolling the benefits of engagement. From news articles to academic papers to government initiatives, an engaged workforce is seen as a worthy, and increasingly necessary, goal

18 August 2011

The skilful leader. Leaders must develop the capacity to ask questions
27 November 2010

Indeed, relentless and fearless exploration has been undertaken in the quest to discover the core skills and competencies that make a truly exceptional leader. Scholars and experts frequently ponder the eternal question: “are leaders born or can they be made?” In fact, an entire industry has emerged to determine “the secret” to powerful and sustainable leadership. We are frequently bombarded with the latest Leadership Development tools and technologies. We require our young future leaders to complete hugely involved MBA programmes at vast expense to our organisations and themselves. We seek the counsel of leadership experts to forge and mould our key staff into becoming extraordinary leaders. These same experts are continually compiling lists of the top leadership qualities – these lists invariably include virtues such as ‘vision, integrity, influence, dedication, humility’… it goes on, ad infinitum.

Thinking about thinking
02 August 2004
Thinking relationships improve the level of thinking because the relationship transforms an internal, invisible activity happening in the mind of an individual into inclusive conversations that reflect many views and beliefs. “What we Think” is a platform to build relationships with co-thinkers.  Co-thinkers can disagree, tear apart and turn around.  Or confirm, enhance and reframe. Maybe launch a brand new conversation about a different thought?
