Skills Audits
Strategy, structure, systems, policies and practices do not achieve objectives or deliver results – willing and competent employees do. However strategy determines an organisation’s talent requirements and considers the growth that can be achieved through training and development. A talent pool describes the skills, competence and ability available within an organisation, in both the short and medium term.
A skills audit is a structured, objective process that determines the gap between supply (the competencies available within an organisation) and the demand for talent over time. A comprehensive skills audit defines both this shortfall as well as the time and effort required to fill the gap, thereby informing strategies for recruitment, graduate development, retention, training, education and performance optimisation.
Connemara begins an audit by understanding context – strategic intent, strategic priorities, the war for scarce and mission critical skills in the client’s industry, the overall talent management strategy and the organisation’s ability and track record in attracting and retaining high potential people.
This process can be challenging, however in a country where skills are in short demand, it is a vital component of every organisation’s long-term strategy.
